My immediate family : parents, siblings, niece, and nephews got together up in Deer Valley for Labor Day we had a lot of fun. We went on a hike and we were about 1/4 mile from the top when Heather called us and told us that they just found out that whoever hikes up can get a free ride down on the ski lift. Boy was that good news. Jacob hiked all but about the last 200 yards. I think it was about a 2.5 mile hike. Joshua hiked quite a bit too. Here is Joshua on the ride down...

Cami had to change Corbin's diaper about 3/4 of the way into the hike. She sure was lucky that our AWESOME Kelty hiking backpack came equipped with a changing pad!

August vacation

So these pictures are in reverse order, it wasn't worth the effort to fix them. Here are highlights of our trip to California in August. We went to 5 beaches, visited a couple of temples, went hiking in Bryce Canyon, and most importantly had a good time relaxing and enjoying each others company.

Here are some of the things we did during June:just hung out...

We went to the Church history museum and they have really re-done the children's area upstairs. They have a hands on area about the Book of Mormon and another area about latin America....

In May we took a little trip down to Zion's and Las Vegas. Our main reason for going was to see Ivan's godmother, her son and his family. They had flown in from Peru to California so we met them in Las Vegas. We had a lot of fun spending some time with them. This picture isn't very clear but starting on the left is their son, then Ivan carrying Joshus on his back, then Ivan's godmother, her son Paco is next to her followed by his wife and Jacob and I on the end. (they have a daughter too but she was taking the picure.)

I haven't been actively blogging since about March; but we have been doing a lot of fun things, so I thought I would update you all on what we've been doing over the next few weeks : )

In April I participated in my first tri-athalon. It was a short one, but it was a good experience. It was a 400 meter swim, 5k (3 mile) run, and a 10 mile bike ride. Here are a few pictures of the event. The only bad part was the weather....it was very windy, and snowing

Ivan was a trooper and watched the kids during the event. Here they are cheering me on from the balcony.

Since the weather was aweful, Ivan and the kids couldn't stand outside in the blizzard the whole time, the pictures he took were all of me in the pool : ) I did the whole thing in about an hour 45 min. I hope to do another one soon : )

Our trip to Hogle Zoo - free day. We love our new double stroller. We had a double jogger and it has so big and kind of a hassle to put together that we rarely used it. This double stroller folds up so small and each of the seats recline individually. We've only had it a few weeks and its already gotten a lot of use.

This picture is in from of some rhinos. The other day we were eating breakfast and there was a noise outside and Jacob said: "The rinofurus are going to eat us!" It made me laugh.

Christmas 2010

Christmas was wonderful! Our greatest blessing is that we have two HEALTHY, HAPPY children. We are so grateful that everything went well with Joshua's second surgery, it was very minor but it is a relief to have it over with. What a miracle modern medicine is! I was reading a friend's blog today who lost her baby just a few months before our baby Joshua was born. She has been through a lot, and she is an amazingly strong person. It made me realize how very grateful I am for our little family. They each bring me so much joy. Yes, life has it's difficult moments and sometimes things are hard. But, there are so many more good times than hard times. There is so much to be grateful for. I love my children and I am SO grateful that they are healthy, and happy and so much fun to be with. I love it when Joshua opens his mouth really wide and gives me a big open mouth kiss on my cheek. I love it when out of the blue Jacob comes and gives me big bear hugs for no reason in particular and says "I love you mommy!" Then I say I love you too! and he always responds with I love you too! LIFE IS WONDERFUL!

I found a new photographer on KSL classifieds who was offering to do family pictures for free. We needed a new family picture so I e-mailed her we got together at Wheeler Farm, and a week later we had a CD with over a 150 pictures of our family. We were amazed by how fast she got the pictures back to us, and we were grateful for the free pictures since we will be having some big medical bills arriving in our mailbox shortly. Before surgery

Things went much better than expected at the hosptial. First of all we had been today that Joshua would have a tube coming out his back to drain his kidneys and the tube would remain in place for about 4-5 weeks. Well the pediatric urologist came to see us after the surgery was over and told us that they had put in an internal cathader instead and that he didn't have a tube in his back. The tubes will have to be removed in 4-6 weeks, but it will be a quick procedure. That was a huge relief. They had previously told us that Joshua would be here for 3-5 days. Then last night one of the doctors who works with the pediatric urologist said that if things go well he can go home tomorrow (which would be today). Joshua is doing really well. They have removed all of the tubes and machines that he was hooked up to. Joshua has also done very well with managing his pain. He was been nursing more frequently, but that has helped to lessen the pain he was feeling. Several of the pain medications that had been ordered for him they decided not to give to him because he was doing so well. He's mostly just been on Motrin, or Tylenol. We are so grateful to the medical staff for there expertise, to our friends and family who fasted and prayed for our little boy, and most of all we are grateful to our Heavenly Father for his watchful care.

It is amazing how in tune to the Spirit little children can be. With recently watching conference, Jaocb has been talking more about President Monson. It The Friend this month Jacob saw a picture of the inside of the conference center with the podium and organ pipes and proudly exclaimed "President Monson" pointing at the picture. So today in the afternoon I asked Jacob if he wanted to go see where President Monson talks and of course he did. So we took the kids down to temple square (one of the reasons I enjoy living in Salt Lake is being so close to temple square that it's easy to drive down there for a Sunday afternoon walk). We took a tour of the tabernacle and the nice elderly missionary that was giving us the tour just couldn't get enough of how enthusiatic Jacob was about President Monson. I think Jacob believed he was really going to meet President Monson. We came around a corner on one of the upper floors and Jacob saw a picture of the prophet and exclaimed "President Monson!" So the elderly missionary said "Let me get a picture of your family by that picture." We went out of the roof and the senior missionary told Jacob he could put his hands in the fountain water and Jacob couldn't have been happier. Later after our tour we went over to temple square and Jacob saw the statue of Christ. We have been talking recently one a two year old level about how Jesus had "owies" in his hands and feet, and how much Jesus loves us and wants us to be nice. Jacob saw the nail marks in his hands and feet and he reverently pointed it out to us. I had also recently showed Jacob some pictures of temples and told his that it was "Jesus' house" As we walked by the temple tonight before we said anything about the temple Jacob exclaimed "Jesus house!" We had a great time being together as a family!

6 months

Joshua and Jacob are as cute as can be. We can't believe Joshua is 6 months old already. He had two teeth when he turned 6 months old and in the last week or so he started breaking 6 teeth at the same time! Despite this he is doing very well. He is 16 lbs (30%), and 29 inches long (95%). His favorite new food is cheerios. I think he likes them because they give him something to crunch inbetween those teeth. The sad news is that he had a renal scan on his kidney in September and now they are doth draining about 40-50% slower than they should. So now he has to have surgery. It is a 6 hour surgery and he is be in Primary Children's hospital for 3-5 days. Then he will have a drainage tube coming out his back for about 4-5 weeks. Even though it will be very hard to see our little boy go through such a difficult surgery we are grateful that we live so close to such great Medical care considering that we are just a few miles away from the hospital and some children drive for many hours to come and recieve care here.

Jabob is potty trained! He couldn't be prouder of himself and we couldn't be happier to only have one in diapers. He turned 2 1/2 last week. He got a scooter as his prize for getting potty trained and he loves to ride it everywhere.

Joshua is 4 months old now and already had 2 teeth that have broken through. He is a very happy baby. I was trying to get a picture of both Jacob and Joshua smiling, but Jacob was more interested in entertaining Joshua : ) We are so happy to have these two fun boys in our family!

We had a great time at our family reunion last week. We went to Steamboat Spring, Colorado. Jacob and Joshua had a great time playing with their cousins. Every other summer my moms family gets together and we go some place different each time. There are 8 kids in my moms family, and each of them have children, and now we are going on the third generation with my kids and my cousins/ siblings children. Our favorite activities were tubing down the river (Jacob loved it, and grandpa babysat Joshua), and going down the Alpine slide which Jacob also loved. After a 5 1/2 hour car ride home the first thing that Jacob said when we pulled in was "Cousins...cousins.." He was sad they all had to go to their own homes : (.

Our cute little Joshua is three months old. He was blessed over Memorial Day weekend. Thanks for all those that came. Jacob couldn't be prouder of his little brother. Everywhere we go whenever people starting cooing about Joshua Jacob proudly tells them Joshua's name pronounced "Jofua" according to Jacob. He loves to hold Joshua, and share toys with him. He'd rather play with Joshua than his toys. Here are some pics:

San Diego

We had an awesome trip to San Diego. We drove, which was a big undertaking for us with a 2 year old and a 2 month old. I know...I know ...others have gone longer with younger children in car seats but for us with very active 2 year old it was an accomplishment. We rented a mini van to have more space to fit our double jogging stroller, and a little more room to stretch. We had a great time. Here's the run down of the trip with pictures below. We left Tuesday around 4pm and drove to Las Vegas. We stayed at the Stratosphere, we got lucky since we stayed during the week the room was only $30. We walked along a little bit of the strip that night, and we watched the water show at the Billagio, we actually watched it several times because Jacob liked it so much. The next morning we went swimming in the awesome pool at the stratophere. Then we headed off to San Diego. We got there in the afternoon and after checking into our hotel we went right to the beach. Later we went to Old Town San Diego for dinner. We ate in the same Mexican restaurant that I ate in when I was on a band trip in high school. There was a mariachi (sp?) Spanish band serenading to different tables and Ivan had them sing a love song for me it was really sweet. The next day we went to San Diego Zoo from 9am to 6pm. Then we went to Mission Beach. Ivan went running on the beach, which he had really been looking forward to, and I played with the kiddos. The next day we went to Sea World from about 10:30 am to 6pm. We loved both the zoo and Sea World. Jacob kept saying "more animals!" He couldn't see enough animals, he is facinated with any time of animal. After Sea World we drove by the temple which is under some major renovations (pics below) and then headed up to Anaheim. We stayed with friends that night and the next day we went to New Port Beach, which was actually in one of my areas on the mission. Jacob loved playing in the "big water" (ocean). We had a great time. We were able to eat at one of our favorite Peruivan restaurants that day too. (We have only found one Peruvian restaurant in Utah that we like.) That evening we stayed in Hurricane and the next day we went to Zion's National Park. We went hiking. We didn't bring our hiking backpack this time for Jacob, because he would rather hike himself than be carried. We did the hike to the three emerald pools (about 2.25 miles round trip) and Jacob did the whole thing on his own. Ivan only carried him for about 100 yards. We had a great trip, but the best part was just being together.

Jacob loved the water show at the Billagio. We watched it several times.

Our first night in San Diego we went to the beach and Jacob played soccer. We just couldn't get enough of the beach while we were there.

We loved San Diego Zoo. We decided to go to the Zoo and Sea World while we were down there because Jacob is facinated with animals. The zoo was a lot cheaper and there is a lot more to see. But we definitely enjoyed both places. One of the few times Jacob rode in the stroller. Joshua was a very happy and complacent baby the whole trip (not out of the usual).

Jacob really enjoyed the zoo and all the animals, but I think the elephants, lions, and monkeys were his favorites. He even has a special elephant walk now that he likes to perform.

The pandas were so cute.

Jacob loves monkeys. I can't even remeber how many times of monkeys we saw at the zoo.

This is Jacob up close and personal with Korky the killer whale. For some reason Korky kept coming right up face to face with Jacob and we were able to get some pretty cool pictures.
We also saw a shark exhibit, sea turtles, sea lions, and seals. We went to several shows and had a great time at Sea World.

This picture doesn't do justice to this beautiful upper emerald pool. Jacob hiked the whole thing except for about 100 yards that Ivan carried him. It was about 2.5 miles round trip and parts of it were pretty steep (especially for a 2 year old).

Here are some pictures of our beautiful little boy. He is such a sweet heart and a blessing to our family. Jacob is still connected to Joshua 24/7. He loves being a big brother and is a great helper. Well I can't believe how much Joshua is growing! I will the baby pictures/ family pictures soon that we had done over Conference Weekend. We went up to my parents house for Conference. and had a very enjoyable time. It really stood out to me how many talks were about teaching your children from a very young age about the gospel and the importance of the scriptures. Ivan and I went out for a little birthday date on Saturday between sessions. We went to Maddox since we were up in Brigham and Ivan and I both really like their food. Then mom, Heather and I hung out at home with my two little boys while the men went to the Priesthood session.
Sunday my mom made me a three layer German Chocolate cake for my birthday. It was really yummy.
This week my mom came down to Salt Lake and took me shopping for my birthday. We had a fun time, and we also took the boys to Wheeler Farm. It is a lot of fun for any of you who haven't been there before, and it's free. Jacob loved seeing the animals and feeding the ducks. We went to Paradise bakery for lunch, which was very yummy.
This weekend I went down to visit Cami in Ephraim, and took the two boys. We went down Friday and Cami cut and highlighted my hair. This was a big step for me since I had never put any color in my hair before, but it turned out really cute. (will post pictures soon). She also gave me a pedicure which was a nice treat that I don't think I had had done for about two years. We had a lot of fun with Cami, and we headed home about 10:30 Saturday. When I got home my nice husband had cleaned the house, and folded the laudry, what a great guy.

The other day I was in the kitchen washing dishes and I walked around the corner to see Jacob laying on the couch next to sleeping Joshua holding both of his hands. It was so cute. Jacob can't get enough of Joshua. When Jacob and I are playing and he hears the slightest noise come from Joshua sleeping in the other room he says "Bebe vamos!" (baby let's go!) he loves to help Joshua, and hold him. When we are riding in the car if Joshua starts crying Jacob will say "it's okay bebe, it's okay"

This labor was quicker than the first. I was induced with this labor, mainly because of the problem of the enlarged kidneys. I expected with labor to be longer since I was induced, but that wasn't the case. We got to the hospital at about 8am. They started the pitocin at 9am. A doctor came to break my water at 10:30 and I had contractions every 3-5 minutes from 10:30 to 11:30. At 11:30 they told me I was at a 7+, almost 8. I thought it would be a few more hours and didn't think I could handle the contractions that long. They gave me the epidural and 10 minues later I felt like I needed to push. They told me I needed to wait for my Dr to arrive. He got there about a half hour later, and Joshua was born within 10 minutes of him arriving. Joshua looks almost identical to Jacob when he was a newborn. He was born March 17th (St. Patrick's Day) and weighed 7 lbs 4 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. He is doing well. We feel really blessed that he didn't have to stay in the hospital longer than normal with the kidney problem he has. He will be seeing a pediatric urologist up at Primary's in the near future for follow ups. Here are some pictures of our new arrival:

So this should have been posted about a month ago but we now have a two year old. He is so sweet. We had a fun birthday party for him - we went to the Fairmont Aquatic Center with some of my family (I'll post pics soon the camera is already in the overnight bag we have packed for the hospital). We took him to Build a Bear on his birthday and he made a cute dog. He loves to sleep with it tucked under his arm. He says the cutest things lately. When we are driving in the car he loves to look for trucks, any kind of truck is fascinating to him. He says Mom! look truck, mom truck! or Mom train! (when he sees the trax), or Mom Bus! He is also learning the colors and he loves orange and yellow. He loves to point out things that are different colors. Kids are so fun, we love our little boy, and are ANXIOUSLY awaiting the birth of our new little boy. Maybe he'll come this weekend if we're lucky: ) But for the mean time we'll enjoy our time alone with Jacob.

First of all for the chocolate cake in a cup:
They taught us how to do this last night at Enrichment Meeting. It works best in a wide mug that will hold about 12 - 16 oz.
4 T. flour
4T. sugar
2 T. baking cocoa
1 egg
3 T milk
3 T oil
a few drops of vanilla
handful of chocolate chips
Directions:
Spray cup with pam. Add dry ingredients to mug mix well. Add egg mix thoroughly. Pour milk and oil and mix well. Set mug in microwave and cook for 2.5 minutes. Cake will rise over the top of mug so watch carefully and don't over do it. It's delicious chocolate cake from scratch in less than 5 minutes!

Baby on the way:
So I went for another ultrasound today (I have them every two weeks). The baby's kidney's at the last ultrasound were 20mm (right) and 25 (mm) left. Today only two weeks later they were 37mm (right) and 42(mm) left. The good news was that the amniotic fluid levels were normal, which means they kidneys are functioning. I couldn't believe they had grown so much in so little time! The doctor that was in the maternal fetal medicine area today said that she was worried with how fast the kidney's had grown in the last two weeks, she left and spoke with some other doctors. When she returned she said it looks like we need to deliver you at 36 weeks (1 1/2 weeks away) or at the very latest 37 weeks. I would like to make it to 36 weeks, but we'll have to see what will be best for our little Joshua. Most of all I really don't want to have a c-section. So I hope that when I'm induced things go smoothly.

So I haven't posted in a while. January was a pretty stressful month. We were told at the end of December that our baby's kidney problem is getting worse. He has hydronephrosis which means "too much fluid in the kidney". My little boy Jacob has the same issue, but his was never severe and they say that he will probably grow out of it in a couple of years.
As for the new baby at the end of January his left kidney was about 4 times the size of his right kidney. The doctor that saw me after the ultrasound said that I would need to start having ultrasounds every two weeks so that they could check the levels of the amniotic fluid. The level of the amniotic fluid shows if the kidneys are functioning properly or not. She said if things got worse that I would probably have to deliver at 32 weeks. That made me really scared. I had an appointment with my OB the following week, and I was hoping he would give me some more positive news, but he said that he would have to rely on what the next ultrasound showed before he could really tell me anything significant. I had a preisthood blessing, and many friends and family prayed for us (thanks!) and at the ultrasound the next week the left kidney had slowed down in it's growth (a miracle!) but the right kidney had almost caught up to it in size. The best news was that the amniotic fluid levels were all normal. I've also met with the pediatric urologist up at Primary's that Jacob sees once a year, to see what kind of procedures we are looking at for our new little baby after he is born. All in all things are looking up. I still have to have ultrasounds every two weeks. I am 33 weeks now, and we are very grateful that our little guy didn't have to be born at 32 weeks. This week they are going to give me steriod shots to help the baby's lungs develop faster, so that if he comes early he will still be able to breathe on his own. Wow the miracles of modern medicine, but more important than that the miracles that have accompanied our seemingly endless prayers for a healthy baby.

So on Friday I was walking into work and I tripped on an area of raised cement. I tried to catch myself, but to no avail I fell all the way to the ground landing mostly on my left hand/arm, and my side. I was in pain, and immediately started thinking about the baby. I've heard of women who loose their babies from a hard fall during pregnancy. Tears started streaming down my face. I nice old man came over and stopped his car. He said that he had seem me fall and asked if I was okay. I felt that the Lord was watching out for me by sending this kind man to help. I ended up going to the doctor because my hand was hurting pretty badly. They think it is just a bruised bone but, their are going to check it again tomorrow for a possible fracture because it was pretty swollen. Luckily everything is fine with the baby, which is what I was most worried about. I am behind now on my Christmas cards, because with my left hand in a splint everything takes a little bit longer. So if you get our Christmas card late this year forgive me : )

Friday night we went to temple square with my family to see the lights. By about 9:30 Jacob was exhausted so my dad was carrying him on his shoulders. He ended up falling asleep on my dad's head. None of us had our cameras with us, but another family (whom we didn't know at all) had camera and they thought that Jacob was so cute and wanted to take his picture. They got my e-mail and sent it to me, so here it is for your viewing enjoyment.

So Jacob as been doing some things that are extra cute lately. He likes to take me by the hand and say “Ven” (come here in Spanish) and pull me down the hall to his room, and then he says toys, or cars, and he sit down and play for a while.
This morning I was curing my hair, and he wanted me to come with him. As soon as I finished he took me by the hand and led my into mine and Ivan’s room and pointed at the bed I asked him in Spanish if he wanted to cuddle with me and he got a big smile on his face and nodded his head. (I am amazed at how he understands both languages so well.0 So we cuddled up on the bed for a little while. This happened after we ate breakfast too. He is such a sweet heart.

Well it seems like most people who don't have time to blog in the day time, blog after their kids go to bed at night. My little one is pretty good about going to bed at a decent hour (usually between 8-9) but after he goes to bed, I am the chemistry tutor. Ivan is taking a chemistry class, which he wasn't really trilled about but it was needed for his nursing major. He doesn't like chemistry, I happen to love chemistry. I counted that I took 10 different chemistry classes throughout my college experience.... so as a result we end up studying chemistry usally until 11 or 1am. By that time I am just too tired to pull out the computer and up date everyone on what's going on in our lives.

SO THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT (for those of you who haven't already heard) WE'RE EXPECTING AND IT'S ANOTHER BOY! YEAH! I'm due March 22nd.

I didn't care if we had a boy or a girl, Ivan really wanted a girl. But I started pounting out all of the good things about it and it think he's pretty excited too. For example: no new wardrobe for the baby (I have about 5 keepers of Jacob's clothes saved), another male to carry on the family name, another person to add to the family soccer team (not that girls don't play soccer, but they won't have to go easy on her) and many more reasons. My brother and his wife are expecting twin boys in Dec. or Jan. so there will be 4 boys on the Carlson side, and no girls yet.

As for other things that have been happening, Jacob was a lion for Halloween, his little roar was so cute. He doesn't know how to say "trick or treat" so he just held out his hand and said "pwease". Sorry no pics. I was at my mom's and I forgot to bring my camera.

Jacob, Ivan and I have all taken our turns being sick over the last couple of weeks. Between aweful colds and the flu we've had about everything. Ivan's been great and taking care of me and helping me get enough rest.

In August we went to the Salt Lake county fair and Jacob rode a pony which he throughly enjoyed.

Then in August Ivan and I took a quick trip to California to the sealing of one the the families I taught on my mission. That was an experience of a life time. I love this family so much and to be able to see them get sealed in the temple was a real blessing.

It was also neat to see some of the people that I served among in that ward on my mission for 9 months. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to be there. I couldn't believe how much the "primary kids" had changed. One of them was the bishop's son when I was there, and the bishop had wanted us to share the missionary discussions with his son before he got baptized. Well, after the sealing later that night we were at the wedding party and that same "little boy" (now a deacon) came up to me and said that he just wanted to thank me for teaching him the missionary discussions before he was baptized. He is a really sincere kid. While in California we were also able to go to several beaches, and swim in the ocean.

This is one of my favorite spots, it's called Inspiration Point, and it's in Corna del Mar (can you believe this was part of my area on my mission!)

and we went to our favorite Peruvian restuarant. All that in less than 48 hours. My mom and dad watched Jacob while we were there. Unfortunately the batteries to our camera died (both sets), so we don't have many pictures of the beautiful ocean and the beach at Corna del Mar, CA. We used our camera to take a lot of pictures of the happy eternal family after they came out of the temple because their batteries died too. My parents watched Jacob while we went to California. It was Jacob's first night away from mom and dad, but he really enjoyed his time ith grandma and grandpa especially their trip to the county fair. We also recently took a trip to Houston, Texas to see Ivan's family, but that will have to be in another blog because it's getting late .....

So for the July 24th weekend we went up to Portland Oregon. We flew up on Thursday night and came back Sunday. My aunt Sarah met us at the airport and brought us an extra car seat for Jacob so that we didn't have to pay to bring one on the plane. She also brought us a stroller both of which were very helpful. We stayed in Beaverton the first two nights of our trip. We went to Multonomah Falls on Friday. We actually hiked up to the top (carrying Jacob most of the way). It was absolutely gorgeous! Ihave been to this waterfall many times but I had never hiked to the top - it was worth it. Friday evening we went to Sarah and John's house for dinner. Jacob enjoyed playing with their three little boys. After we left there home we went and walked around the Portland temple grounds - I love the Portland temple. Saturday we went to the Tillamock cheese factory the ice cream there is divine. Then we went out to Cannon Beach and met my cousin Kristin with her family. Saturday night we stayed in a hotel in Seaside Beach with an ocean view room - it was so beautiful. We walked along the beach, played in the sand, went running on the beach (my favorite place to run), and visited the little shops. The next day we visited 2 or 3 beaches before we headed back to the airport. Sarah was such a help, I don't know what we would have done without her : ). I'll have to add the pics tomorrow because it is 12:30, I'm tired and the add pic button isn't working : ) good night.

Well as we all know life can get quite busy, as a result I am a little behind on our blog. So I guess I'll just have to add a few pics at a time of all of our July adventure, because there were many....So this summer has been a lot of fun. Ivan got a really nice bike for Father's Day and then we were given an awesome bike trailer so we love to go on little bike trips with Jacob to Liberty Park. If you haven't been you've got to visit Liberty Park when you are in Salt Lake...it's got something for everyone. They have the Tracy Aviary, and a small lake with paddle boats, carnival type rides for the kids, a swimming pool, tennis courts, a running trail, bike/roller bladding side walk, a splash pad for the kids......it's a lot of fun. So fourth of July weekend we rode over there on the bikes and Jacob played in the water, and we rented a paddle boat. Then we went home and went swimming in our pool. It was great.

That night we went to my sister Jenny's and we had a b-b-q and did fireworks. The faces Jacob pulled when he saw the fireworks were unforgettable. On the fourth we went hiking up Mill Creek canyon. Then we went to Grandma and Grandpa Anderson's for a fourth of July party, and we watched the fireworks at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake....Jacob loved those fireworks too.

Okay...so I am very much looking forward to the time when we have our own back yard. We currently own a condo in Salt Lake...but one of the perks is we have a pool right outside our door. Another great thing is hardly anyone uses it besides us. It is rare to see other people in the pool. So it basically feels like our own : ).I love going swimming anytime of the day.....but we especially love going swimming at night. After a long hot summer day.

June adventures

Well here are some fun things, and some interesting things that happened over the last month or so..... The week after we came back from Yellowstone, Ivan had an accident at work and cut his cornea. Luckily the cornea is something that heals quickly, and Ivan was feeling better within a few days. Then....just as he started feeling better he and Jacob came down with influenza A. The doctor said it was most likely swine flu because influenza A is not common at this time of year. So...they treated Jacob, Ivan and I (even though I tested negative) and within a week we were pretty much back to normal.

Jacob loves swimming sooo.... we go quite often. Usually several times a week.

One night after going swimming Jacob and I were cold, so we made a "hot tub" in the bath tub. I love his gleeful look in this picture.

We went down to Ephraim to the Manti pagaent and stayed in a beautiful restored home that was over 100 years old.

This is Jacob and grandma playing air hockey as we waited for Jenny to arrive for her suprise birthday party. He loves air hockey!

Jacob has a "date" with Grandma, Ben, and Jenny every week for the summer. They take him to fun places. He has a great time, and he and grandma have bonded very quickly. Today when she went to leave to go home, he put his arms out for grandma to hold him, and then he gave me a kiss and waved good-bye. He thought he was going home with grandma. He sure loves his grandparents.

One week they went to Lagoon. It's crazy to think that I used to fit in one of those little dolphins : )

Today, I joined in and we went to the Discovery Museum at the Gateway. That place is so fun! Jacob loved playing in the water station, going rock climbing, launching balls through the vaccuum tube, going in the real helicopter.... It was a blast.

I'll have to get a pic. soon of Jacob and Ivan riding the bike together. Ivan got a really nice bike for Father's Day, and we were given a great bike trailer/stroller by one of my mom's friends whose kids had outgrown it. We love going to Liberty Park now by bike or even running there.

So here are some things that in we did in May.

We went to Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Parks. We were able to see buffalo, elk, fish, and even a bear. We did some hiking, and Ivan carried Jacob in his new hiking backpack. We went with my mom and dad. We were also able to stop and see Grandma and Grandpa Carlson in Idaho Falls on the way up. It was a fun trip.

We went to the Rocky Mountain Speed Way with my parents, and Dave and Ashley.

We went to the Living Legends festival in downtown Salt Lake. Jacob loves dancing and he enjoyed dancing to groups who were performing from Bolivia, and North Africa.

Well first of all here is what we have been up to over the last month or two so.....

Ivan went to visit his family in Peru. He hadn't been for about 8 years. I was really sick when I was in Venezuela on my mission so we didn't think it would be a real wise idea to take Jacob to South America at such a young age. So we will probably go as a family in a few years when Jacob is a little older. He loved seeing friends and family, but he also really loved running along the coast. Here are some picture.

Lately we have been enjoying the good wheather and taking Jacob to the park to play a lot. He loves going the park and we have a nice new park that is within walking distance. He love going on the big kid slide so I go up and down the slide with him multiple times whenever we go to the park. The two parks that we usually go to has ducks. Jacob loves to chase the ducks and see them run back into the pond. So far he hasn't been able to catch one yet...lol. Jacob also loves giving hugs and kisses. When you say "kiss, kiss" to him he puckers right up.

I can't believe our little boy is one year old. For his birthday we went to the Fairmont Aquatic Center. It is a really fun pool for kids. So...it's been a while. Jacob is now 11 months. He loves soccer, he is following in his dad's footsteps in that regard. Jacob loves to kick the ball, or roll in back and forth between him and who ever he is playing with, and he likes to watch soccer games on tv with Ivan. He especially loves to watch Ivan to tricks with the soccer ball, it makes him giggle. Who would have thought he would have found a love for the sport at such a young age.
We went to the Mayan the other night with some of my family, and Jacob loved the divers and fire dancers. He got so excited everytime they came out to perform. He is such a fun boy. That's all for now I'll have to add some pictures soon.

Oh Christmas tree

We are busily getting ready for Christmas. Jacob love the Christmas tree but luckily he hasn't pulled it over yet. We have had fun shopping. I have probably made over half of the presents this year so that has made it a little more fun too. I think that babies and children bring a certain type of magic to Christmas. Jacob love Christmas lights, Snow, Christmas music etc. We have an advent calender that I got from my mom, and we read a scripture and sing a Christmas hymn, and then put a little angel figurine in the advent box. We let Jacob pick out the angel every night, a couple of times he has picked the baby Jesus, but we are saving that one for Christmas Eve. I finally got all of my Christmas cards addressed and they should be in the mail tomorrow yeah! Jacob seems to be in awe of the white stuff that has been coming out of the sky for the last two days. I think he will like it more next year when he can play in it. We went to the temple Friday night and then we all walked around temple square. It was fun to go see the lights as a family. If I don't write again before Christmas we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

glad things and sad things

Well the sad things first. Today is Jimmy's birthday (Jimmy is my parents dog). He would have been 14 years old. But he died on Wednesday night. He became suddenly ill on Sunday and died on Wednesday. He will be greatly missed be all especially by our little Jacob who spent last weekend chasing him all over. Well besides that these last two week have been wonderful. It has been nice to see family. We went up to Brigham for Thanksgiving, we spent Thanksgiving day at my aunt and uncle's house in Smithfield. It was fun to see pictures of Cami's wedding dress which she picked out over the break. Yesterday my dad spent the day at our place while Ivan went to the Snow College national championship game at Rio Tinto stadium with most of my siblings and my mom. We didn't think it would be a great idea to have Jacob out in the cold for four hours : ). Well my dad helped out a lot by playing with Jacob while I put up Christmas decorations. If it wasn't for his help everything would probably still be in a box. Ivan is getting ready to finish this semester and start new classes in January. He is working on his pre recs at SLCC. He wants to do his RN through a program with IHC hospital. He is working really hard. I think anyone who works full time and goes to school receives a big pat on the back. Jacob can now stand up an walk along furniture and he's not even 10 months yet. He is a very happy baby (except when he is in his car seat: )) Well here are a few pictures that I hope you enjoy.

Well it has been a little while since I've posted so here is what we've been up to. Jacob is now 9 months old. He loves "helping" with the laundry, and "unloading" the dish washer. He is crawling and standing just about everywhere. Ivan and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary. We went to the Living Planet Aquarium in Sandy, we stayed at the Little America hotel, where we swam and went running in the gym, we played tennis, we did sealings in the Salt Lake temple (the highlight of the day) and we went to Red Lobster for dinner. It was a memorable anniversary. This last weekend we went hiking. It was Jacob's first time. Ivan carried him in the infant carrier 3/4 the way but then Jacob wanted out. We hiked the Rattlesnake Gulch trail up Millcreek canyon. It was a beautiful day.

Jacob loves dogs, no matter where we are if there is a dog around that's where all of his attention goes. When we were up at my parents for Halloween he was facinated with Jimmy. He followed him around everywhere. Jacob is crawling all over the place and his favorite thing to do was follow Jimmy. He thought it was pretty cool that he could pull Jimmy's tail and make him move. Well sorry it has taken me a few weeks to post. Life has been busy. Last week I received Salt Lake County Outstanding employee of the year. I received a cash award, 2 tickets to ride the Heber Creeper, and lunch with Salt Lake county mayor Peter Carroon. Jacob and Ivan also came to the lunch which was at Baxters American at the Gateway. I was just as surprised as anyone to receive the award. My boss gave a little speech about why she nominated me at the luncheon. It was a great day.
We went up to my parents house for Halloween. There was a trunk or treat at church. I was an Incan girl, and Jacob was a bumble bee. Ivan didn’t dress up this year. Latter we went to my parents house and Dave and Ashley came over for dinner it was great to see them. Jacob is growing and learning in leaps and bounds.
Today Jacob saw snow for the first time. He was intrigued by the white stuff all over the trees, and grass. I'll be adding some pictures later because I don't have the camera with me right now. Have a great one!

8 months

Well Jacob is now 8 months old, and he is crawling. I can honestly say this has been the fastest 8 months of my life. This week he started crawling, clapping his hands, and eating many more foods. He loves the bath tub. He likes yogurt, and chicken, beans, lentils, he eats all fruits and veggies. He isn't picky at all. As long as he's hungry he'll eat about anything. Jacob love the park, and he loves to swing. There is a park close to our house where they just added 2 new playgrounds. Here are some pictures from the park.

I had one of the biggest suprises of my life this week. I was chosen as Salt Lake County employee of the year! At the end of the month Ivan and I will have lunch with Mayor Carroon of Salt Lake County, and I will receive a cash award of $1,000! I was just as shocked as I'm sure many of you are. We were also very blessed that Ivan got a full tuition minority scholarship for 2 semesters. Ben came to stay with us last night and he and Ivan had a huys night out. Ben took Ivan to a REAL soccer game at the new stadium. They had a great time together. We are all healthy, happy, and doing well.

General Conference

Last week was great. Ivan and I went to the temple on Thursday to do sealings. It was a nice prelude to General Conference. The sealer taught us many things. I love it when they can take the time to do that. Then Friday we went to my mission conference. It was great to see old friends, only one of my companions was there because most of them don’t live close enough to come. Saturday we watched the morning session at home and then we went down town for the afternoon session. We didn’t have any tickets, but we were lucky enough to get 2 from a family we met who had extra. Ben and Ivan’s mom went because they hadn’t ever been in the conference center for conference. Ivan and I have been many times so we took Jacob to the North Visitor Center and watched it in a theater there. Then after the session we went to the Joseph Smith movie. After that the guys went to the Priesthood session in the Conference Center and Ines, Jacob and I went home we were exhausted. Sunday we stayed home and watched conference on tv. It was so fun to have Ben come and stay with us. Two of the talks that really touched me were Pres. Uchtdorf’s about hope and Elder Holland’s about ministering angels. General Conference

Last week was great. Ivan and I got to go to the temple and do sealings on Thursday which was a nice prelude to Conference. Then We went to my misson reunion. It was fun to see some old friends. Then Ben came to stay with us for the weekend. We went down town for the Sunday afternoon we didn't have any tickets. But luckily we found some one that had two extras. Ben, and Ivan's mom went. Ivan and I watched it in the visitor center. Then we went to the Joseph Smith movie. The guys stayed and were able to go to the conference center for the Preisthood session. Jacob, Ivan's mom and I went home we were exhausted. We stayed home for the Sunday sessions and watched them on tv. Two of the talks that really stood out to me were Pres. Sister time

Ivan had a great time with Jacob Saturday night. They were alone together for about 4 hours, they had some real guy bonding time. I went with my mom and my three sisters: Jenny, Heather, and Cami and we went to eat, and then we went to the general Relief Society broadcast. It was wonderful. I especially enjoyed President Uchdorf's talk about overcoming feelings of inadequacy, and serving others. Afterwards we came back to my home and had brownies and ice cream, one of my favorite desserts. Jacob thoroughly enjoyed having his aunts hear because they fed him ice cream, and he loved it. Heather, and Nick were down this week from Montana. It was great to see them. Jacob got his first helium balloon this week. The grocery store by us gives them to all the kids. Jacob was facinated with his balloon. Friday night we went to the Bountiful temple right about sunset and walked around outside and took pictures as a family it was a beautiful night. Jacob is trying to crawl. He gets up on hands and knees and "launches" but he usually lands on his face. He is still trying to get the hands and knees working together. This week was great. I was able to tke Jacob to work with me 3 days this week. We had a conference at the Homestead in Midway, Utah. I work with mostly women. We were at a conference on the state level so there were a couple hundred women there. Jacob loves women because they talk to him and say cute things. So needless to say he really enjoyed his time with me. I brought his baby food the first day, but he was more interested in eating what was on my plate that the pureed stuff. So he got to try a lot of new foods, fruits, veggies, bread, pasta crackers. Yesterday we went to Sugarhouse park to go running. I went for about 3 miles. I think it requires a lot more energy to run pushing a jogging stroller than it does to run alone, but it more the run more interesting too. Jacob loves the ducks at sugarhouse park. I took him there on another occasion this week and we fed the ducks and he laughed and laughed at the funny noises they were making. Needless to say this week went pretty well. We entered Jacob in a photo contest too, just for fun. Well, thanks for reading and until next week.

BYU game

This week Jacob turned 7 months old. He is a happy bundle of Joy. He loves playing with his dumptruck. We put all the blocks in the back and he quickly dumps it out. He loves playing peek a boo. If I hide around the corner and jump out at him he will giggle, and giggle. He now likes broccoli and applesauce, and goldfish crackers. This week we took him to an awesome BYU game. BYU won 59 to 0 against UCLA. It was a great game.

We also took our first pictures of him sitting up in the bath tub. Last week he still needed support sitting up and now just a week later he enjoys sitting just about anywhere. He scoots too. Here are some fun pictures from this week.

Today was our stake conference. President Monson spoke along with Elder Ballard and 2 other general authorities. It is wonderful to have a prophet that leads and guides us in these latter-days. It was a wonderful conference the talks were centered on strengthening the family, and following the Spirit. Thanks for reading. Have a great week.

Peach Days

We sure had a fun week! Jacob is starting to like many foods. He really likes Peaches we discovered yesterday. He also likes corn, bananas, and sweet potatoe. This weekend we went up to my parents house in Brigham for Peach Days. We has a lot of fun. We went down town and walked around to booths. We went to the art fair. We ate a lot of yummy foods. We ran into some old friends that we hadn't seen in a while. We got to see 4 of my 5 siblings.

We found out that Jacob loves our old family dog Jimmy. Every time Jimmy would come around him that's all Jacob could concentrate on. He laughed when Jimmy barked and had a good time playing with the dog. We went to the parade and Ben my brother was dressed up as McGruff. He took Jacob in his arms and I think Jacob thought it was a giant Jimmy dog. He loved it. Well it was a great week! Thanks for reading...until next time

Well, My goal was to write every week, but last week was too busy. So, two weeks ago I went to a week long lactation educators consultant course. And since Jacob is a nursing baby he got to come with me all week. There was probably about 100 people in the course all women expect one, and Jacob was a center of attention during breaks and lunches. Everyone loved him. He did so well it was a 40 hour course, and for being 6 months old he did very well. Then last weekend we went to see my parents and we went to the Box Elder County Fair. Jacob had never seen so many animals. Saturday we went to an open house for some dear elderly friends of mine, the Kelly's, who are moving to Texas. I was a little emotional as we said good bye. They are very wonderful people who have been very influencial in my life.

This week Jacob got a booster seat, and now he sits up to the table with us. This is much easier than trying to balance him on my lap while I feed him. We were able to attend a very special sealing of some friends in our ward. They were sealed and then their daughter was sealed to them. She is 10 and had been wanting to be sealed to her parents for awhile. After the sealing she sang I love to see the temple in the sealing room. The Spirit in the room was unforgettable. This week Jacob reached 6 months! He is growing so quickly. At his 6 months apt he weighed 15 lbs 4 oz, and he was 27 .5 inches tall. He is 15 % for his weight and 80 % for his height. He loves to do push ups, roll over, eat, drink from a cups and many other things. He loves to dance. For his six month birthday, I made a cake. We sang happy birthday, we made a video with Jacob dancing. Jacob and I went to visit Cami at Snow college and spent the night with her. Jacob did very well traveling for the 2 hour car ride, he didn't cry at all. It was Jacob's first night away from his daddy but he did pretty well. I love being a mother, life is great.

Grandpa Carlson's 80th

This weekend we celebrated Grandpa Carlson's 80th birthday. Friday night while the "kids" went out to dinner the grandkids had a little get together at Carole and Wayne's house in Bountiful. This yesterday August 9th we had a picnic at a park in Centerville, and then we went to the Bountiful temple to do sealings. It was a great day. Next to Grandpa, Jacob was the "main attraction". He has a lot of fans, he was the newest member of the family present.

vacations

This summer has been fun. Jacob loves swimming. We take him swimming in our pool often, and he seems to like it more everytime. We went to a family reunion up at Snow Bird. We went on the Aline Slide, the zip ridder, and we went for a little hike. We went to Bear Lake, and we just got back from a trip to Anaheim, CA. While we were in California. We visited some of Ivan's family from Peru who live close to Riverside. We went to visit some of the people I taught on my mission, that was awesome. We also went to the ocean which was wonderful. I love the ocean. It has a way of letting you release all your cares, and worries and feel rejuvenated.

We went up to Helena, MT for Memorial Day to visit my sister Heather and her husband Nick. We had a great time. I think our favorite part was a boat ride we took called the Gates of the Mountain. It was neat because I was right along the Louis and Clark trail. The scenery was amazing. We even saw a bald eagle in the wild. It was Jacob's first boat ride.

Having a baby and watching him grow has taught me to appreciate the simple joys of life. I love how excited he Jacob gets as he splashes water, or hears a new sound, or tastes something new. I can't believe he is almost 6 months old. He is growing up way too fast. I love being with him, and watching him learn new things everyday. He has 3 teeth on the bottom, and one just started to poke through on the top. He loves to roll over. He loves to give hugs and kisses. He is our little bundle of joy. Life is wonderful.
